Postponed In-Person Annual Conference
Special Announcement from the AURPO President
Annual AURPO Conference – Liverpool – Rescheduled for 2022
Dear prospective delegate,
With profound regret and sadness, the AURPO Executive Committee has concluded that we will not be able to run a ‘real’ annual conference in Liverpool in 2021 (which had already been rescheduled from 2020). Instead, we will once again have to delay the conference in Liverpool until the first full week in September 2022.
This decision was only arrived at after much careful discussion taking into account several factors including guesses as to when a full COVID vaccination programme will be complete in the UK, health concerns of our members, potential on-going travel restrictions, extremely poor to non-existent training budgets in many institutions to financially support conference attendance, and continuing social distancing measures.
The Executive Committee felt that the uncertainties of our UK COVID situation moving forward through 2021 were merit worthy of another 12 month delay and we wished to get this news out as quickly as possible.
Nevertheless, it’s not all bad news. We are currently planning to hold a virtual conference in September 2021 which is of course AURPO’s 60th Anniversary year. We aspire to have several ‘live’ talks, include a virtual exhibition, and perhaps even some sort of virtual social event. Once plans have crystallized I will be able to provide you all with further details as soon as possible.
In the meantime, if you require further clarification or information then please do not hesitate to contact me.
I hope that in some point in the not too distant future this horrible COVID situation will draw to an end. Until then, please stay safe and protect your family and colleagues.
With my very best wishes,
Professor Pete Cole, President of AURPO
